Wellbeing: Be Kind to YOU

I've just spent a fortnight off work sick, due to a rather nasty double dose of viruses (is that the right plural?!) At the start, I mostly slept, watched box sets, and felt completely rubbish, but over the last 4-5 days I'd say I've been gradually coming out of the other side, getting stronger and generally feeling better each day.  Having loads of free time to just relax, potter about, read, and basically giving myself permission to look after myself, has left me feeling quite reflective.

I started to realise that this bout of illness has taught me to go a bit easier on myself, to take stock and to actually pay attention to my body and give it what it needs. I'm not a sickly person. I've worked since I was 17 and in that time I've never taken over a week off sick. I 'power through' with paracetemol and go in. I'm not trying to be a martyr, I think the problem in many ways is that I've never let myself be 'sick enough' to take too long off. On this occasion, it took a 'cold' that had lasted a fortnight and a tearful cancellation of a much-anticipated trip to London (I missed Beauty and the Feast - heartbroken!) to get me to the GP to admit I wasn't right.  The GP suggested I simply needed time to rest and recover.

That trip to the GP made me realise something very important that I honestly don't think had dawned on me before. I am allowed to be ill. I am allowed to take time off to get better. And it's ok to admit when you're defeated.  This then led me to thinking about self-care and kindness, and most specifically it led me to wonder how much do we ever focus on really being kind to ourselves? How much do we allow ourselves to spend time on "me", to celebrate "me" and to actually like "me"?

Review: Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water

A few months ago, I received a 400ml bottle of Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water to try out.

I was apprehensive as my previous experience with Micellar water hadn't been a great one.

However, since then I have learnt some things about how Micellar should properly be used and so I was looking forward to giving this a try.

Spoiler warning - the word 'Micellar' appears A LOT in this post.

Happy New Year 2018!

As the first day of 2018 draws to a close, I've been thinking about resolutions.  I'm not really keen on that word so instead I've set myself some little goals or aspirations to try and keep in mind for 2018.  They're nothing really earth shattering as I find that kind of goal setting quite unrealistic.  Just a few little things I want to think about heading into the next new year.

Review: Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Collections (a project with Savvy Circle)

I was recently lucky to be selected to take part in a research project with Super Savvy Me: Savvy Circle and Herbal Essences, to try out and review three of the ranges under the new Bio:Renew collection of shampoos and conditioners*

I generally only wash my hair once or twice a week (it's healthy, I promise!), and I usually look for shampoos and conditioners that primarly are for strength and repair, or those for coloured hair. I was interested to give these a go; I have used Herbal Essences in the past but not for some time.

There are seven lines under the range (in the UK - the US has nine, lucky them!) I was able to test out three of them, highlighted in bold as follows:

Argan Oil of Morocco
Coconut Milk
White Grapefruit and Mosa Mint
Golden Moringa Oil
Cucumber and Green Tea
Rosemary and Herbs
White Strawberry and Sweet Mint
