The Nail Files 2016: Week Two

It's week two in my little series, showing you my weekly manicures and giving reviews of the products used.

You may have seen my mid-week update (here) in which I showed you how last week's mani lasted through the week. I don't plan on doing this every week, but wanted to for the first one to give you an idea of how I got on.

This week I have gone for a different colour and have used my gel kit again to give it a lasting finish (hopefully!)

Week Two: The Products

This week, I have chosen one of my favourite polishes in my collection, Merino Cool by Essie. This is a fairly recent addition to my collection which I bought after falling in love with it at first sight over on Instagram. I bought mine from Superdrug in store.

It is, for me, that perfect colour somewhere between purple and grey. For some reason, it makes me think of elephants...which is really bizarre as I've never seen a purple tinted elephant! (Who knows how our minds work?!)

I have topped the colour with  my United Beauty Gel Touch kit again (as described in my first post), and I prepped my nails with the same No. 7 nail primer.

I know that last time I wore Merino Cool, I was impressed with its staying power, and that was just with an ordinary Seche Vite top coat. I'm looking forward seeing how it gets on with the gel touch top coat.

Something I learned:

Last week when I was reviewing how my nails had lasted, I happened to find some instructions in the box that the gel touch top coat was in, which I hadn't seen previously. The instructions recommended wiping over your painted nails with the alcohol wipe, before applying the top coat. I have done that this time to see if it helps at all.

I'll let you know next week how I get on. Have a great week!

I just wanted to add a little 'P.S.' to this post, just to let you know that my blog will not be solely featuring nail products until the end of time. I have been busily photographing all sorts of other products and planning lots of other content, which I hope to have with you soon.  Thanks for bearing with me!

  1. Ah I just want to say thankyou for those nail posts! I've read soooo many reviews on the kit but nothing afterwards I had so many questions but all your posts answered them haha :) i think I'm going to purchase one! xx

  2. Hi Katie. Thanks so much for commenting! I'm glad my posts have helped. I think the kit is great value, I would much rather DIY than pay £20 or so every couple of weeks at a salon. Let me know if you need any more info.

    Love, Siobhan x
