Recent Favourites: January 2017

Just a quick one from me today, to share some of the products I've been loving for the last month or so.

I've given myself a small (big) 'challenge', in an attempt to be sensible and save a bit of cash. Admittedly, during the latter part of 2016, I went a bit spend crazy and bought all sorts of beauty products and makeup. I wanted to start the new year with some 'goals' in mind and one was to curb my spending on beauty and clothing, so that I could really use some of the stuff I already have and get the most of out my collection.

I like to switch around my day to day makeup regularly anyway, so I don't get bored, so every couple of weeks to a month I do try and change things up.  And this post details some of the new (old) products I've loved throughout January.

I've also been keeping a list of the products that I've completely used up each month, just so I can get a kind of idea of how much (or little) I'm using. I'm aware this sounds freakishly organised and a bit weird, but it's really helping me appreciate and keep track of my spending.  When January payday came around, I found I had a couple of hundred pounds 'leftover', which has really spurred me on to continue.

What I've Loved This Month

Pixi Glow Tonic Glycolic Toner

If you'd told me a year ago that I'd be in love with a toner containing acid, I'd have laughed in your face. However, I've recently discovered this beauty and it has made my skin almost radiant. The glycolic acid acts as an exfoliator and helps to keep my dry skin in a smooth condition. I use it every other night, alternating with normal toner. Used with decent moisturising products, it's working brilliantly to keep my skin looking great.

L'Occitane Ultra Rich Face Cream

This face cream is gorgeous. I've used the whole mini up this month. It's been perfect for my dry winter skin. It's just rich enough to hydrate without causing that greasy feeling some moisturisers have. I won't repurchase as we're going towards Spring (hopefully), but I will consider it when next Winter comes around.

Clinique High Impact Mascara

I find it hard to say much about mascaras and I'm yet to find "The One". This was good though. I liked the brush, I liked the formula. It's been lovely to use.

Urban Decay Brightening and Tightening Complexion Primer Potion

I am loving this face primer. I bought it ages ago by mistake, thinking I was ordering the eye primer. Having just got round to using it in January, I'm really pleased I did as it's great. It's 'my' kind of primer - hydrating and lotion-like as opposed to dryer and powdery.  Lovely, I'd buy it again.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

I'd been using a Maybelline Colour Tattoo eyeshadow as a base for a while, but found it made my eyes dry, so I went back to my favourite. I love this primer and this tube is about the third I've bought. I am glad I went back to it.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer

This is a fab dupe for YSL Touche Eclat. Fab. I've been popping it under my eyes on top of my covering concealer and it just adds radiance and brightness and helps to revert the eye from any darkness under there.  I'd definitely repurchase.

Stuff I've Used Up This Month

I haven't taken photos of my used up products, because I decided showing empty bottles and packages was a bit weird. But here's a run down of what I've got to the bottom of:

  • The Balm Manizer Sisters Highlighting Trio (two shades completely at pan)
  • Bourjois Poudre de Riz
  • Pixi Hydrating Milky Spritz
  • 4160Tuesdays perfume - Rome 1963 and Mrs Gloss Outdoors
  • Simple Cleansing Oil
  • Orla Kierly Shower Gel and Body Lotion

Hope you've enjoyed this run through, let me know what you think!
